Start with the challenge

Where does your business need support to move forward?

Whether you are deciding where to focus, preparing to launch or building commercial capability, we start with the decision you need to make and the work required to move it forward.

01 · Market opportunity

We need to understand the opportunity

Assess customers, competitors and market segments. Test the assumptions behind your commercial case before committing time and resources.

Typical output: A prioritised market assessment with target segments, evidence gaps and recommended next steps.

02 · Launch readiness

We are preparing to launch

Bring positioning, pricing, channels and launch priorities together around a clear customer proposition and a practical plan. I can also advise on regulatory and reimbursement strategy, helping align your route to market with the requirements for market access and adoption.

Typical output: A launch roadmap with agreed priorities, responsibilities and milestones.

03 · Commercial partnerships

We need commercial partners

Define the right partner profile, identify relevant prospects and prepare a convincing proposition for distributor or strategic partner discussions.

Typical output: A qualified partner shortlist, outreach approach and support for initial engagement.

04 · Leadership & delivery

We need experienced leadership

Bring senior commercial support into your business when a role is vacant, a team needs direction or an important project needs an owner.

Typical output: An agreed commercial action plan and hands-on delivery against clear priorities.

Every engagement is scoped around your business. We agree the deliverables and responsibilities before work begins.

Meet Rick

Commercial experience that becomes part of your team

I’m Rick Leach, founder of Callisto MedTech Consultancy. My career spans more than 35 years in medical device sales, marketing and business development across the US and Europe. I have worked with global blue-chip multinationals and fledgling university spinouts, bringing the same practical commercial focus to organisations at very different stages.

My previous commercial roles include Baxter Healthcare, IsoTis Orthobiologics, Integra Life Sciences, MedShape and Bonesupport.

After more than 35 years in the industry, I have built an extensive network of industry and clinical contacts. This network helps me bring relevant perspectives to commercial questions, identify potential collaborators and support introductions where appropriate.

I support innovators in surgical devices, orthopaedics, biomaterials, regenerative medicine and related fields. My experience helps bring clarity to challenging scenarios and difficult decisions. Whether you are weighing market opportunities, setting commercial priorities or deciding where to commit resources, I help you assess the options, gather the evidence and identify a practical way forward. I’m comfortable moving between the board-level question and the practical work needed to answer it.

Clients work directly with me. We agree the challenge, the scope and the outcomes, then I get to work alongside the people who will deliver them.

FCIM: Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Marketing.

Common questions

How an engagement works

Can you work with an existing leadership or marketing team?

Yes. I can provide senior leadership, support an existing team or take ownership of a defined work package. We agree responsibilities at the start.

Is the commitment fixed?

The scope and working pattern are agreed around your need. A fractional role is usually recurring; a specific project can have a defined deliverable and end point.

Which stages of company do you support?

My work is particularly relevant to medical device spinouts, startups and scaleups preparing for commercialisation or growth.
